About the Art

About the Artist.
Hello everyone!! My name is Meghan McMahon and I really am not good at autobiographies so I'm just going to tell you all useless irrelevent information about myself. Sound fun? No?? Too bad! You don't have to read it if you don't want to. I started Monkey Cadaver Media in the summer of 2004 as a freelance Graphic Designer. As Christmas time came around, I was broke and didn't know what to do for everyone I loved, but I wanted to give really good gifts. So I snagged some canvas and paint, and started painting. The very first painting I ever did was Dolly {AKA No Name}. The paintings went over really well at christmas, so I decided to put them up on my MySpace and started up my Devaintart page. The responce was incrediable!! I contenued to paint and was published in Self Inflict Magazine and had my first show at the brewery that spring. Everything's been uphill from there!! More shows and the start of MonkeyCadaver.com!!! I've even shown in Artist Alley at Comic Con International 2006!! Thanks to everyone who's supported me and cheered me on throught every emotion. Madd propps to all my Muses... you know who you are. Alrighty... that's all for now about that...

As for anything elce you might want to know, or might not... Things of interest are vampyres, pirates, monkeys, dancing, legos, art, music, pictures, dolls, antiques, weapons, stars, billiards, dumb stares, kitty?, kitty!... hats, um... yeah. Kicking it with anyone and for a night of games, or getting together with people to show them how many times I can die in one level of any RPG. ha ha ha. ...... ..... ... . . . Seriously. My latest stable income comes from GameStop (Parkway Plaza, El Cajon, CA) so i f you're in the area, stop by and say 'allo!! I'm also designing shirts that are being sold at a little store... maybe you've heard of it? that's right... Hot Topic... yeah, that's what i do to earn the money for my art, when I'm not having a show. So yeah, that's me in a nutshell... it's cramped in here. hope to meet you all one day, and if you made it this far, you know I'm crazy.

A few words from the fans:

"Poignant is the word I think of when I see the duality of your work....

agitating, agonizing, bitter, distressing, disturbing, emotional, heart-rending, heartbreaking, impressive, intense, moving, painful, passionate, pathetic, perturbing, piteous, pitiful, sad, sentimental, sorrowful, touching, upsetting....

Since finding you (the artist... hey that's me!) ... I have learned more of you as a person. You are facinating and live an interesting life. You also use your brain and think.

I am glad to have you as a friend."

My extended reaction:

While some awful art critics out there would likely have all kinds of silly, pseudo-connoisseur things to say…I am not said art critic, and I couldn’t even begin to believe that my judgments on such things could be so relevant as to place a value on feelings and creativity that one applies to his or her craft to which any audience would adhere.

That said – it is this one man’s opinion (and possibly that of my lady, though she is asleep right now and will see it tomorrow) that your work is very influential and powerful in its own right.  It may be seen by just enough people, but the work is truly great and should be seen by more.  Having met you, I believe that it begins to capture what I’ve seen on the exterior, as well as whatever bits I may have been able to see past it just from initial observations.  I won’t pretend to know you, as my lady and I have only briefly encountered you…but after seeing your work, it almost seems as if we’ve been friends for some time.  That’s quite difficult to explain, and it may sound a little strange or “corny,” ... but I’m sure you understand my meaning.
